This carrier is strong and well made but a little heavy for a small person to carry around.
One Tough Cart2010-07-195 / 5
I bought this cart last week from LL Bean, and tried it out right away on the Bigelow Hollow canoe loop in Northern Connecticut. The cart performed like a champ on the notorious Mashapaug - Breakneck portage and everywhere else that I took it.
The best all around Kayak or Canoe Mover for the money!2010-02-175 / 5
I bought this to squire around a new Tsunami 175 Touring Kayak. I researched all the others and read the reviews, and then I remembered the difference I experienced in having air-filled bicycle type wheels made on my golf cart versus the 6" hard plastic or rubber ones I had previously used. Those small wheels work well on the smooth pavement you might find at a large state park boat launch or cart path, but get quickly stuck and rutted in mud ... sand.... brush...where the larger air-filled tires are effortless. When I opened the box I knew it would have been great with some large canoes I had portaged in the past, but how would it work on the narrower frame of my kayak. Perfectly! is the answer. The thickly padded hull braces are adjustable to three different widths and the narrower one worked perfect with balancing my kayak and taking through the rough to the beach were I launch it. Don't waste your $$ on any kayak or canoe transporter with hard 6" wheels. And did I mention the sturdy leg brace, it sets quickly with one hand and then the unit is sturdy enough to sit on and won't run-away on you while you are wrestling your kayak/canoe out of the water. I can lift the front end of my kayak onto the braced cart (about a 1/3 of the way up, cinch the strap (by-the-way you will need a piece of foam or a sponge from your kayak to place between the metal hardware on the sling and your tender boat skin to avoid a scratch when you cinch it snug)),then release the heavy spring assisted brace, pick up the tail end and start walking back up the hill and I am on my way in less than 60 seconds. This unit is well made, welded, heavy duty springs, thick pads...a quality piece...also great for moving other large objects like heavy pipe or timbers. I know I sound like a salesman, but I have bought a lot of stuff that was not well made, flimsy, poorly designed and difficult to maintain and assemble...it is just a pleasure to know I got a great value for my dollars.
Pacific Canoe Cart2009-11-134 / 5
I generally like the cart a lot - excellent price and works great. I'm in my late 50's and I can't take the strain anymore carrying canoes on my back. I tried a Paddle Boy cart for a year and hated it (one with the fat tires) - canoe was low to the ground and was hard to secure to the cart - didnt work well on rougher terrain.

I would have rated it 5 stars if the welds looked stronger - wonder about long-term durability. The spot welds on the tubing are pretty sloppy - I wont be surprised if they fail after a few years. So far the cart feels rock solid after using it for a couple months (4-6 times).

I use the cart to portage canoes along trails or closed roads into small lakes that I fish in Northern Wisconsin - between 1/4 and 1/2 mile. I have a 16'Penobscot Royalex and a 13' Wenonah Fusion Kevlar. I can load them with a lot of gear - has no problems handling the load. The clearance is excellent and easily rolls over small branches or rocks on the trails. I like the larger wheels and ball bearing axle.

It's a little heavy - but I dont keep the cart in canoe while fishing anyway - hidden in the brush,
